The Nonprofit Growth Lab path
Five milestones, 25 to 100+.
Growth isn't one giant leap - it's five recognizable stages, each with its own feel, its own wall, and one move that breaks through. Find where your nonprofit is, and start there.
The First Circle
Fragile, intimate, family-sized. A base of ~20 committed supporters can feel small, but this is where every organization starts.
Phases 1–2The Comfortable Base
Warm, known, and manageable. Everyone is connected to the founder, who sits at the center of every relationship and ask.
Phases 2–3The Founder Ceiling
Full and busy - right at the typical small-nonprofit ceiling. The founder is maxed at the number of relationships one person can personally steward.
Phases 3–4The Tipping Point
Exciting but demanding. Around 100 committed donors, the organization strains its founder-led structure and needs real systems and shared leadership.
Phase 5Multiplying
Bigger and more alive. As you grow past 100, supporters start bringing others again, because the mission and its impact speak for themselves.
